According to reports, the watermelon interplanted in the timber base of the state-owned Yanjin County forest farm has had a bumper harvest, with large-scale harvesting starting on July 15.
Earlier this year, over 600 acres of forest land have been logged at the Xinya Yanjin Forest Farm, and the newly replanted fast-growing poplar rows have large areas left empty. To develop the under-forest economy, achieve agroforestry, and improve land utilization and economic benefits, the company invested over 2 million yuan to purchase modern large agricultural machinery and high-quality seeds, interplanting efficient crops such as peanuts, sweet potatoes, and watermelons. This not only helps with weeding for the fast-growing poplar trees but also improves sandy soil through cultivation and fertilization, enhancing soil fertility. At the same time, it increases land utilization, complements strengths and weaknesses, combines long and short-term benefits, effectively promotes the industrialization of agriculture and forestry, realizes ecological circular planting, and increases economic income.
Today, under the newly planted fast-growing poplar trees, large and round watermelons are lying everywhere, and the forest rangers are systematically selecting and harvesting them. The watermelons are mainly ordinary seeded varieties, cultivated without harmful substances, using scientific pest control. With careful management, the weight of each watermelon is uniform, the appearance is good, and they are sweet and delicious.
According to General Song's arrangement, the first batch of 30,000 pounds of watermelons will be distributed free of charge to employees for heat prevention and cooling. As of the time of this report, over 6,000 pounds of watermelons have been distributed to the company's white cardboard factory and pulp factory.
